MCMS - serving music in Methodism

MCMS grants and bursaries

violins
Have you any young musicians who take part in music in worship at your Methodist church?

Are they receiving tuition?

If the answer is "YES" we may be able to help them with grants towards their tuition costs.

The Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer of the Methodist Church Music Society (MCMS) are Managing Trustees for the Freeman (Methodist) Music Trust. This trust, which is a registered Charity (registration number 214836), was originally set up under the will of the late William Frank Freeman.

As a result the Managing Trustees are able to offer grants towards tuition costs to anyone involved in music in the church. Nowadays grants extend towards the tuition costs on all instruments used in worship, not just the organ. Bursaries are also available to those requiring financial assistance to attend music courses or conferences, including the annual conference of the Methodist Church Music Society.

The Trustees particularly encourage applications for grants from those under the age of 30 years, and from ministers of any age undertaking musical studies during sabbaticals. Grants for the same purpose are similarly available to adults over the age of 30 years both from this Trust and from other specific funds held within the Methodist Church Music Society.

An application form in PDF format may be downloaded here but printed copies are available from the MCMS Secretary, John Bailey, 23A, The Quadrant, Totley, Sheffield, S17 4DB. Tel/Fax 0114236 7196. You can email him by clicking here To avoid delays these forms should ideally be completed and returned to him by 31st August in any year for consideration by the Managing Trustees at their next autumn meeting.

Requests for bursaries towards the costs of attending the MCMS annual conference, and setting out the reasons for the request, should also be sent in writing to John Bailey (address as above).
