Leading Music in Worship training scheme

LoMiWpicture
How it began . . .

In 1996 the Methodist Conference asked the Methodist Church Music Society (MCMS) to produce a training resource to help those people with responsibility for leading music in worship.
After much deliberation the MCMS Training Committee produced, piloted and refined the training package entitled "Leading Music in Worship"

This training package has been designed for use by all denominations and aims to improve and enhance music in worship.

Our aim is to encourage and develop the use of all forms of music in worship throughout the Methodist Church. To achieve this we offer the following services. Click on any coloured and underlined heading below for more details:
Who is the course for?
those with an interest in music and with some musical
   skill, however basic.

Why the course?
Many people have musical skills not being used.
Many churches are asking for help with music.
The course offers:
An opportunity to enhance existing musical leadership
   skills.
Help to widen the vision of musical possibilities.
Opportunities to discuss the musical needs of different
       congregations.
A widening of individual vision and understanding the         role of music in worship.

Topics covered include:
Role of the Music Worship Leader.
   Leading Worship with the voice.
   Leading from an instrument
   Managing a Music Group
   Planning worship and communication needs.

Those attending will:
be introduced to the purpose of the course,
be led through each of the course sessions
become familiar with the equipment needed
be given advice on how to get the best from the
course both for the leader and participants
have the opportunity for discussions with people who
are very familiar with the course.

The commitment
   10 two-hour sessions.
Small charge to cover cost of materials and certificate.

Course structure
The course is designed to be led by a local tutor and
an ideal  group size is between 10 and 15 participants.
These may be musicians from churches in the same
Circuit, from adjoining Circuits, drawn from across a
District or an ecumenical group from a number of
churches situated in the same locality.

Arranging a course
If there is sufficient demand our Training Officer,
Christine Lawley at clawley@hotmail.com can arrange a
weekend 'Training the Trainers' session for a group of
people who wish to lead a local course.

Other training opportunities
Through Christine, MCMS can also assist you to arrange
your own training days/weekends at District, Circuit or
local church level by providing advice, resources and
   leaders.
