MCMS - serving music in Methodism

Organ and keyboards in worship training scheme

childorganist This scheme has been designed to encourage existing organists, potential organists and other keyboard players, who have been persuaded to "fill a vacant seat" and find a real sense of vocation in playing suitable music for worship.

The hymns and music recommended are intended to provide a balanced selection from the vast repertoire of church music. Training can commence at any time and a student may enter at any stage and take what ever time is necessary over each stage,.

All the music recommended can be purchased from a local music shop or from RSCM Music Direct, St Mary's Works, St mary's Plain, Norwich NR3 3BH

MANUALS ONLY OPTION
As originally envisaged this training scheme assumes that students would naturally progress from music written for "manuals only" to that requiring "manuals and pedals", the transition occurring as the student started Stage 3. This by no means excludes further voluntaries for manuals. We have, however, become increasingly aware that this situation makes it difficult for some students to progress beyond stage 2.The syllabus therefore provides "manuals only" alternatives for voluntaries required in Stages 3, 4 and 5.

TUTORS
Wherever possible students will be given the name and address of a recommended Tutor, or if one is not known in a particular area we will endeavour to find one through local contacts.

ASSESSMENTS
Each Stage, with the exception of the preliminary one, will be assessed by a qualified assessor appointed by the MCMS Training Group. A fixed fee will be payable for this assessment, irrespective of the distance or other costs involved.
